Are you wondering what info you need to send to me to book a tattoo?

I ask everyone to send me the following information:

–  Contact information: (name, phone number, email address)

 – Placement of tattoo: please be exact in your description and include left/right, top/bottom etc. Attach a photo of where you want to put your tattoo especially if you have other tattoos, scars, moles or any other features that I would need to be aware of.

Example of good placement info: Left inner forearm and/or Center of upper back between shoulder blades.

Example of bad placement info: top of arm and/or side of leg.

–  Basic measurements: Stating you want a small tattoo or a big one doesn’t mean anything to me so please include the rough size in inches of the width and height. I may not always be able to stay within these measurements for the design you want, but it will give me a rough guideline to work within.

Description of your tattoo: My rule is this, Keep it simple, Keep it short.  This is the most important part if you want me to understand what you are wanting to get. So please be send your ideas in point form or short sentences. Also state the most important info first and least important info last. I know that on the tattoo shows on TV, clients give their life story about the tattoo they are getting and I understand the tattoo you want may be very significant in meaning, but please refrain from sending more info than I need in order to draw your tattoo. I don’t mean any disrespect, but sending a long email will make it hard for me to get to info I need to create a tattoo for you.

Example of a good tattoo description:

  • It’s a memorial tattoo for my mom.
  • Flower (prefer a rose, lily, peony)
  • Would like a butterfly in it, possibly a Monarch.
  • Any other smaller flowers that you choose to fill the area
  • Possibly her name although its for her and only I need to know that.
  • Birth and death dates

Example of bad tattoo description:

  • I want to get a tattoo for my mom that passed away 3 months ago in a car crash. Her name was Caroline Elizabeth Madeline Smith but her friends called her Ce-Ce. She was very special to me and we liked to do everything together. I am very lucky to have had her as a mom and want to get a tattoo to remember her by. She had many interests, she liked to play music, she was an artist, liked to bake and was out in the garden all the time. I remember when I was a little girl, my mom would take me outside and show me the wonderful flowers we had. This one time we were digging up the weeds and a butterfly which could have possibly been a monarch, landed on my face. I will never forget that day. I want a tattoo that will show my love for her and the things she liked.

The “bad example” is still a lot shorter than what I’ve gotten from some clients but you can see how writing it in point form is a lot easier for me to decipher what is important and what you truly want in your tattoo. Having to go through a novel of information makes it complicated and takes up a lot of time.  So please Keep it simple/ Keep it short.
